We left at 8:00 this morning for Acadia National Park, about 2 hours from the Gray's home. We drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain where you can see magestic views all around. This is the first place the sun hits in the U.S.
After these breathtaking views we went over to Thunder Hole where the waves crash up through the rocks, especially at low tide, which we were lucky to have, and a big thundering noise occurs.
We tried to have popovers and blueberry tea at a famous little place in the park, but we couldn't find parking. We decided to find lunch in Bar Harbor and weren't disappointed. A great little deli made up 7 delicious sandwiches in minutes, and we sat in the shade of a little park overlooking the harbor. We then did a little shopping. Sharolyn bought some Maine sea glass jewelry, my favorite souvenir. We then embarked on our next adventure of sea kayaking.
Out in the harbor. We paddled about 2.5 miles, but our guide told us we should double it by factoring in the V Factor (for vacation). This is because generally you are lazy on vacation and could be rewarded for doing something active.
Annie made us the BEST meal: grilled burgers, kabobs, salad, corn on the cob, and then s'mores! Stuffed! Good thing we paddled and walked today. The Grays are the most wonderful hosts. We've had such a terrific time. It will be tough to say good-bye tomorrow.
